Travel smarter, spend less, and discover how flexible travel planning can help you find incredible flight deals.
If you've ever wondered how people manage to travel so frequently without spending hundreds of dollars on airfare, I'm going to share one of my favorite travel strategies: the Frontier Airlines GoWild! All-You-Can-Fly Pass.
I've learned that the secret to finding great deals isn't always booking months in advance. Sometimes, the best prices appear just days before departure.
We've found flights from San Francisco (SFO) to Atlanta (ATL) just one to three days before traveling. The key is knowing when to look, being flexible, and understanding how the GoWild! Pass works.
Here's how we do it.
1. Check for Flight Deals Early Monday and Tuesday Mornings
One of my favorite strategies is checking Frontier's available GoWild! flights early Monday and Tuesday mornings.
From my experience, these are excellent times to start searching for fresh deals.
I recommend making it part of your weekly routine. Get up early, open the Frontier app or website, and start checking your preferred routes.
Don't limit yourself to searching just once. Availability can change, and sometimes a flight that wasn't available earlier may appear later.
My travel tip: Keep a short list of destinations you're interested in so you can recognize a great deal when it appears.
2. Understand the GoWild! Booking Windows
One of the most important things to understand about the Frontier GoWild! Pass is how the booking windows work.
Domestic flights: GoWild! fares generally become available one day before departure.
International flights: GoWild! fares generally become available 10 days before departure.
Early booking: Frontier may also offer GoWild! early-booking promotions that let you reserve flights further in advance.
This is why flexibility is so important.
You don't necessarily have to plan every part of your trip around airfare. Sometimes, you can plan the destination first and wait for the right flight deal.
3. Book Separate One-Way Flights to Find Better Deals
Here's one of my favorite money-saving strategies: search for one-way flights instead of automatically booking round-trip tickets.
For example, we've found excellent prices traveling from San Francisco to Atlanta and then booking another one-way flight from Atlanta to our next destination.
Searching each leg separately gives us more flexibility to take advantage of available GoWild! fares.
The trade-off is that separate tickets are not treated like a protected connecting itinerary.
If you check luggage, you'll generally need to:
Arrive at your first destination airport.
Go to baggage claim and collect your checked luggage.
Take your luggage to the airline's check-in counter.
Recheck your bags for the next flight.
Go through airport security again.
This takes additional time, so plan accordingly.
Important: If your first flight is delayed and you miss a separately booked second flight, the airline may not automatically rebook you at no charge. We allow enough time between flights to protect our travel plans.
4. Why Atlanta Is One of My Favorite Airports for Finding Deals
For our travel plans, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) has become one of my favorite airports for finding affordable connecting flights.
We've discovered that flying from San Francisco to Atlanta and then continuing to another destination can sometimes cost considerably less than booking the entire trip together.
I especially like searching for flights from Atlanta when planning trips to Florida, the Caribbean, and other destinations.
Of course, the best airport depends on your destination, available routes, and travel dates. But Atlanta has worked extremely well for us.
5. How We're Planning Our Upcoming Cruise Using GoWild!
Here's a real example of how we use this strategy.
We have a cruise coming up, and we've already booked our flight from Atlanta to Miami.
But we haven't booked our flight from San Francisco to Atlanta yet.
Why?
Because I've repeatedly found good GoWild! fares from SFO to ATL just one to three days before departure.
Rather than paying a higher fare immediately, we're watching the route and waiting for an opportunity to book at a price we're comfortable with.
This approach requires flexibility and a backup plan, especially when a cruise is involved.
My travel tip: When traveling for a cruise, consider arriving at the cruise departure city at least one day before embarkation. Don't risk missing an entire cruise to save a few dollars on airfare.
6. Use the Frontier Mastercard as a Backup
Another helpful tool is the Frontier Airlines World Mastercard.
The card allows eligible purchases to earn FRONTIER Miles, which can be redeemed toward qualifying flights.
When we can't find a GoWild! flight at a price that makes sense, our accumulated miles can come in handy.
So far, we've only needed to redeem miles once, and the amount required was reasonable for our trip.
I like having this option because it gives us another way to manage travel costs when GoWild! availability doesn't work in our favor.
Just remember that award flights may still have taxes and fees, and credit card benefits and redemption requirements can change.
7. Avoid Unnecessary Airport Check-In Fees
Here's another tip that can save you money.
Check in using the Frontier Airlines app before you arrive at the airport.
Frontier generally opens online check-in 24 hours before your scheduled flight departure.
I recommend checking in as soon as your window opens rather than waiting until you get to the airport.
Why?
Because airport Wi-Fi, cellular connections, and airline apps don't always cooperate when you need them most.
I've found it's much easier to handle everything before leaving home.
When booking, choose the self-service options that work for your trip and avoid unnecessary paid airport assistance.
Frontier charges for certain airport-agent services, so reviewing the current fees before traveling can help you avoid unexpected costs.
Once you've checked in, save your boarding pass to your phone so it's easily accessible.
8. Remember That the GoWild! Pass Doesn't Cover Everything
The GoWild! Pass can be an incredible travel tool, but it's important to understand what you're paying for.
Your pass doesn't automatically include everything associated with flying.
Depending on your booking, additional costs may include:
Taxes and fees on each flight segment.
Carry-on or checked baggage.
Seat selection.
Certain airport services.
Additional charges for eligible early-booking promotions.
You'll also need to pay attention to blackout dates, pass validity, and available GoWild! seats.
The pass works best when you understand the rules and calculate the complete cost of your trip.
9. My Best Advice: Be Flexible and Have a Backup Plan
The biggest lesson I've learned using the Frontier GoWild! Pass is that flexibility can make a tremendous difference.
Sometimes, the best flight isn't available when you first search.
Sometimes, booking separate one-way tickets opens up a more affordable itinerary.
And sometimes, using a few accumulated miles is better than waiting for a GoWild! fare that may never appear.
I don't assume every flight will be available, and I always recommend having an alternative plan when traveling for cruises, international departures, or other time-sensitive events.
The goal isn't just to find cheap flights. It's to travel more often, spend wisely, and make the most of every opportunity to explore.
Final Thoughts: Travel More, Spend Less
The Frontier GoWild! Pass has changed the way we approach travel.
Instead of assuming that flying across the country has to be expensive, we look for opportunities, compare routes, and plan strategically.
From San Francisco to Atlanta and beyond, we've discovered that a little patience and flexibility can lead to some exciting travel experiences.
If you're thinking about purchasing the Frontier GoWild! Pass, I hope these tips help you understand how to get started and what to watch out for.
